The Brief

The Assignments team were tasked to capture Father Christmas performers at Ministry of Fun’s annual Santa School ice skate at London’s only riverside ice rink, Glide at Battersea Power Station. We were commissioned by PR agency Milk & Honey for this work. Ministry of Fun is Britain’s biggest provider of Father Christmas performers, with its graduates taking on the role of Santa at grottos and leading retail and leisure venues across the UK. Over the last 25 years they have trained more than 500 Santa’s and elves.

The Solution

We were tasked of capturing the festive fun in a light-hearted and humorous way at the various multiple locations. The costumed actors got into their roles as the seasonal icon and the thing that our photographers always consider is to avoid contrived and posed up imagery – but to capture that moment of joy in their eyes and observe in a reportage way the days activities. As this was public facing, and to avoid the activation being spoiled by social media users on the street, speed was critical, and our photographers were on stand-by for quick editing and captioning and issuing onto the PA wire.

The Results

Our content went out in abundance on the PA Media photography wire. Coverage included print hits in The Daily Telegraph, The Courier and Advertiser, The ‘i’, the Yorkshire Evening Post and many more….
