The Project

London Christmas Street Lights

Service

Photography & Video

The Brief

The Assignments Team were tasked to photograph and film multiple London Christmas Lights switch-on moments. Each site was a different estate client (New West End Company, Grosvenor Britain and Ireland, The Crown Estate, Covent Garden, Carnaby Street etc) however over-arching most of these were PR agencies Four Communications, London Communications and Mission, who we have worked with to capture this festive moment for many years now. To say we are the UK’s primary Christmas Light capture specialist, is no understatement.

The Solution

We have many photographers in London to call upon, but at this seasonal time of year, availability is challenging given the myriad of other festive PR activity that happens in November. We secured people way ahead of time knowing this and for those projects that required filming we used in-house crew. Most of the locations had high footfall members of the public to be mindful of and we needed of course to shoot effectively in low light to ensure our content illuminated during somewhat dreary weather. Vox-pops with members of the public and interviews with talent like Nicole Scherzinger – brought our content to life. We had to complete risk assessments of course for all the locations and some to get that dazzling birds-eye view shot, accessing rooftops of some of London’s most iconic retailers.

The Results

Our content went out on all the respective PA Media photography and video wires and had accompanying copy from our journalist colleagues. This kind of public engagement, colourful content, is exactly the kind of thing a picture editor uses to illuminate festive retail stories or highlight event activities, which visitors to the capital could enjoy for free. Hundreds of digital and broadcast outlets used our content including ITV, Daily Mail, The Londonist, Evening Standard, The Independent, SecretLdn and Yahoo News.
