PA MediaAssignments – Joe McGovern

What is your job role at Assignments and what does a typical working day entail for you?

As a Video Producer at Assignments, I can confidently say that every day is an adventure! My work takes me to various corners of the globe, from directing shoots in sunny California to orchestrating plans on London’s vibrant South Bank. It’s a dynamic mix of projects with our diverse range of clients.

How would you describe Assignments in one sentence?

Assignments is a fast-paced hub of creativity and innovation.

Tell us about your career journey, both at Assignments and what led you to work here.

My journey started back in my hometown of Dublin after completing a degree in Television and Film. I embarked on a freelancing career as a videographer, crafting compelling content for brands and festivals. Then, in the middle of 2021, I made the leap to London and stumbled upon Assignments almost by accident. The rest, as they say, is history.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

It’s hard to pick just one, but if I had to, it would be the unparalleled flexibility I enjoy in my role. This flexibility fuels my creativity and allows me to adapt swiftly to the ever-evolving demands of the industry. Additionally, I must mention the incredible team I have the privilege to work with. Their dedication and camaraderie make every project a memorable experience.

What’s been the biggest changes in the PR & Comms industry that you have noticed?

The most notable shift in the PR and communications industry has undoubtedly been the meteoric rise of TikTok. While its influence was always on the horizon, the speed at which it has become a dominant platform has been nothing short of astounding. It’s reshaped how we approach storytelling and brand engagement in a profoundly impactful way.

How do you see the industry changing within the next five years?

Buckle up, because the PR and communications industry is poised for rapid transformation in the coming half-decade. We can expect continuous disruption driven by emerging technologies, evolving consumer behaviors, and the ever-expanding digital landscape. Keeping pace with these changes and innovating will be the key to success.

Tell us a bit about yourself outside of work. What hobbies do you enjoy?

When I’m not immersed in the world of video production, I’m a foodie at heart. My weekends often revolve around exploring the culinary delights of Chinatown, where I indulge in an array of delicious dishes.
