The Project

RadioTimes.com

Background

With a proud history as part of a media brand dating back to 1923, RadioTimes.com is the largest, dedicated TV entertainment news website at the heart of the TV and film industry in the UK (Ipsos, Sep 2023). The Immediate Media Company title is a trusted and definitive voice in the world of TV entertainment, and the go-to platform for radio and TV users for all their immediate informational needs for radio, linear TV, and film content.

Whether scheduled, on catch-up or on demand, the platform offers users the ability to find out more about any show or film available in their territory and watch this content on their chosen devices with a simple click of a button.

RadioTimes.com is taking a leading role in the content discovery experience by providing clear direction to consumers about where and when they can watch a certain programme or film in the viewing schedule and on-demand universe. A key driver of this success is recommendations and guidance, expertly crafted by Radio Times editors, which sit alongside listings data enhanced by trusted providers including PA TV Metadata.

Where to Watch enters

PA TV Metadata’s B2B2C content discovery solution Where to Watch was already powering RadioTimes.com’s listings content for over 650 linear UK-based channels; given PA’s industry-leading customer service and the partnership’s close working relationship stretching back more than 20 years, moving to PA for VOD content was hugely attractive to Radio Times.

Including content from multiple VOD catalogues and catch-up services would allow RadioTimes.com users to search quickly for content using meticulously verified metadata, which is updated throughout the day and delivered via API. As a solution, Where to Watch puts viewers first and is underpinned by the product integrity of the PA Media brand.

By incorporating Where to Watch into its market-leading offering, RadioTimes.com has further enhanced its online search and navigation experience by sharing the latest films and TV shows as they are added to VOD platforms, actively driving engagement, and reinforcing its reputation as the source of truth.

VOD content is released globally on some platforms at 12.01am Pacific time/8.01am GMT and there is a desire to savour and share this content, particularly new shows and movies, at the earliest opportunity.

PA TV Metadata’s in-house team of editors responds with immediacy to these new releases and creates assets from scratch with speed and accuracy, but more importantly, passion and care, to continually expand and enrich PA TV Metadata’s industry-leading TV guide content with the power to attract TV users.

PA TV Metadata work towards the same standards we at Radio Times hold so dear – reliability, accuracy, and speed. They have been a trusted partner of ours for many years and play an integral part in the collection and delivery of our TV metadata.

As part of the PA Media Group, there is a real sense of trust in the PA brand, and the TV Metadata team uphold this with their diligent approach to the work they produce for us. They are always flexible to our needs and quick to respond to ensure we, and our readers, receive the best possible service.

With our digital offering, we’ve wanted to continually be the go-to platform for TV guide information whilst catering to new and evolving audience tastes. The VOD streaming market is huge and bewildering and Where to Watch is a great fit for us – not only does it greatly increase the speed we can showcase must-see new content, but the product helps to fuel an exceptional experience for our users.
